The Immigrant Mom is a 501c3 non profit organization founded in the United States supporting mothers and women who are parenting in a new country, different from their country and culture of their upbringing.
The Immigrant Mom has a vision to empower every immigrant/multinational woman with the tools necessary for an overall better parenting experience as well as improve her integration and resettlement in the country of her residence. The organization slogan is “Brave Woman, Raising Brave Children”. Our mission is to Equip, Empower and Educate the Immigrant Mom through programs, projects and information sharing.
After my child was born, I realized how much I did not know about the US culture with regards to parenting and raising a child. In my home country’s way of life, after a woman has a baby, she is often surrounded by family and friends who give her a celebratory welcome from the hospital and ensure that she and the baby are well taken care of. But this was not my experience in the United States and I desperately wanted to be surrounded by a community of other women who were parenting far away from home. Amongst many other things I began to think about the influence culture has on parenting and on how much I did not know about the US culture and the importance of me knowing enough to give my child the best opportunity.
I needed to know about the educational system, and the holidays and the parks, and just basic things about this new culture. It was on this premise that I set out to bring women together to equip, empower and educate ourselves on this parenting journey
